A Chat with Norm Nelson

September 6th, 2011

The radio chat I had with Norm Nelson airs today on Compassion Radio http://compassionradio.com/broadcast/index.asp and can also be downloaded as an mp3.  Either click on this link or go to Compassionradio.com and click on “Today’s Broadcast.” 9-6-2011

The show is entitled  “What does it mean to ‘reach the top?’” Norm’s guest, Eric Alexander, has an interesting – and powerful – take on the subject.
We  had a nice talk about my book The Summit and it’s subtitle – Faith Beyond Everest’s Death Zone – and what exactly that means.  We covered such topics as Everest, blindness, faith and adventure.

I hope you enjoy the broadcast.  I sure enjoyed meeting Norm and look forward to hearing more of the interviews he has recently conducted, including one with my friend Philip Yancey (archives January 27, 2011.)

Philip Yancey Shares Some Wisdom on Pyramid Peak

// August 12th, 2011 // 1 Comment » // Climbing, Events, Interviews

This past week I had the opportunity to participate in an event at the Snowmass Chapel with renowned author Philip Yancey.  On Saturday night he shared about his recent book Prayer and on Sunday night I was given the mic to share about some of my adventures.  Both nights were well attended events thanks to the marketing efforts of the chapel, but even more fun was the climb Philip, his wife Janet and I completed on Monday morning.  We were on the trail by 4:45 a.m. and five hours later we stood on the summit of Pyramid Peak (14,018′) with a few others and a few goats.  The video above shows the humor and wisdom I witnessed on this glorious cloudless day.

Commitment

// April 16th, 2011 // No Comments » // Interviews

I enjoyed watching this interview and thinking about the topics that came up in it.  Chase Jarvis is a well known photographer and Mike Horn a talented adventurer.  As they discussed a few ideas, the word that stuck out to me was commitment and begs the question: What are you committed to?  See the interview by clicking on this link –  http://podcast.chasejarvis.com/podcast/ipod/ipodfeed.xml or copy and paste it in your browser. Alpine Starts

// February 28th, 2011 // No Comments » // Advice, Climbing, Interviews

This is the first in what I hope will be a continuing and improving series entitled “Alpine Starts”.  An alpine start is when climbers rise before the sun to set off on a long days climb.  I took the opportunity on one of these alpine starts just the other day to ask my friend John Davis(a professional counselor working with at risk teen boys) to give a few insights into these relationships and help us better understand how to relate.

(Please forgive the rough nature of the video and edits.  It is hard to belay and shoot video at the same time.  I am also new to video editing.  The next one will be less shaky – I promise.)
